Under the provisions of the Constitution of ANOC, the General Assembly is the supreme governing body of the Association of National Olympic Committees. The Association’s member NOCs are entitled to participate in the General Assembly, represented by their delegates, in addition to the members of the Executive Council of ANOC. The Ordinary General Assembly meets each year.
The General Assembly elects the President and the Senior Vice-President every four years, as well as the members of the Executive Council.
The ANOC Awards
Following the recommendation of the President, the ANOC Awards was created to give ANOC the chance to commend the achievements of its NOCs, athletes and others in the Olympic Movement over the course of the year and promote best practices. The ANOC Awards has been hosted annually since 2014 to coincide with the ANOC General Assembly.
ANOC Merit Award
The ANOC Merit Award was created to recognise persons who have in an exceptional way furthered or contributed to the work of the Association. The ANOC Merit Award is formally presented to the laureates in a ceremony taking place during an ANOC General Assembly. Distinctions were presented for the first time in 1983. The first laureate of the ANOC Merit Award was the late Juan Antonio Samaranch.
To date, over 190 ANOC Merit Awards have been awarded (see list of laureates)
