ANOC mourns loss of former IOC Member HRH the Grand Duke Jean de Luxembourg
ANOC was saddened to learn that IOC Honorary Member and former head of state, HRH the Grand Duke Jean de Luxembourg, has died at the age of 98.
HRH the Grand Duke was an IOC Member for 52 years between 1946 and 1998. During that time he served as Chairman of the Rules Reviewing Commission from 1973 to 1976 and as a member of the Commission of Enquiry for the Winter Games from 1968 to 1969. He became an IOC Honorary Member in 1998.
HRH the Grand Duke was a patron of several sports federations in Luxembourg and served as a member of the National Olympic Committee of Luxembourg (COSL). He played an integral role in the development of sport both within Luxembourg and around the world.
HRH the Grand Duke leaves behind a strong and lasting legacy and he will be greatly missed.
