OLYMPIC COMMITTEE OF PORTUGAL ORGANISES WORKSHOP ON FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT FOR ATHLETES
On 18th April the second seminar on financial awareness for athletes was held in Braga, Portugal. The initiative was implemented by Portuguese Athletes’ Commission along with the Olympic Committee of Portugal.
Financial advisor and former professional footballer Luis Diogo and Dr Matteo Silverio, acknowledged expert in tax law, delivered a lecture in the areas of financial management and taxation. The aim was providing athletes with tools to ensure financial stability, during and after their sport career, as well as preparing them for this transition.
Taekwondo athlete Júlio Ferreira emphasized the importance of gatherings of this kind, stressing that in this way athletes have the needed competencies to manage their personal finances and to ensure themselves a financial stability in the future.
“I congratulate the Commission and the NOC for their concern and commitment in dealing with these very important topics for athletes,” Ferreira said.
This workshop is part of the Role Models project, which aims at raising athletes’ awareness on a series of key issues, including finance, the fight against doping and the results’ manipulation.
