ALBANIA – OLYMPIC ACADEMY CELEBRATED ITS 25th ANNIVERSARY
On December 8, the Annual Session of the Albanian Olympic Academy celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Established in 1992, over the last 25 years, under the umbrella of the Albanian NOC, the Albanian Olympic Academy has carried out a series of activities throughout the country, focused on its mission to promote and spread the Olympic Ideals, mainly in relation to Olympic Education, and in particular Olympic Education in schools.
The Session was officially opened by its current President, Agron Cuka, who is a member of the Executive Committee of the Albanian NOC and is Rector of the Sports University of Tirana.
A highlight of the event were the videos on the 25-year activity of the Albanian Olympic Academy. The first Director of the NOA Dhimitraq Dhjaku, welcomed by the many guests, brought greetings and spoke about the many friends of the Albanian NOA who have contributed to its development throughout the 25 year activity. Albanian NOC President Viron Bezhani and Secretary General Stavri Bello also both delivered addresses.
Commemorative awards were given to 10 outstanding persons for their special contribution to the development of the Albanian Olympic Academy and of Olympic Ideals in the country.
The working session covered many subjects, including Olympism and Academic Olympism, by Prof Perparim Kabo, Olympic Education at School as a compulsory part of the Physical Education Curriculum, by Mrs Ela Baze from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, and Olympic Education and the roles of the Albanian NOC and Albanian NOA by Eda Caushi, Director of the Albanian NOA.
President Agron Cuka officially closed the session inviting all participants to continue their involvement with the programmes and activities of the Albanian NOA, stressing that “every contribution to the promotion and spread of Olympic Ideals and Values is a direct contribution to the education of the new generations with values for a better society”.
