CYPRUS OLYMPIC COMMITTEE CONDUCTS A TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN IN SPORTS MANAGEMENT
The Cyprus Olympic Committee – in response to the IOC’s call to implement a programme to promote women in decision-making sport roles – has established a training programme for women in Sports Management.
The initiative is under the guidance of the Cyprus Olympic Committee’s “Women and Sports” Commission and is strongly supported by 2017 IOC Women and Sports Award Androulla Vassiliou, who was also former European Union Commissioner.
The programme “Promoting women as sports executives” is tailor-made and addressed exclusively to female executives. It covers a broad spectrum of Sports Management topics, with the contribution and participation of distinguished trainers, including sports experts and renowned athletes, both from Cyprus and abroad. The aim of the programme is to empower women to participate more effectively in the decision-making bodies of sports organisation.
The 26-hour training course was implemented by Ernest & Young Cyprus and will take place at the “Jean Nouvel” tower in the capital Nicosia.
The first session took place on Tuesday, 29 May 2018 and featured as guest speaker Claudia Bokel, who was Athens Olympic Games fencing champion in 2004 and also former IOC Executive Board Member. The programme sessions will carry on till the end of November.
