Kick off, ANOCA and Cape Verde committed to vision 2020
The opening ceremony of the 34th Seminar for Secretaries General of African NOCs graced by the sports Minister of Cape Verde, clearly demonstrated the shared commitment of Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), the authorities of Cape Verde and the local NOC to vision 2020 of the African Olympic Movement, of which the ongoing seminar and the maiden Africa Beach Games in 2019, major events organised in SAL (Cape Verde), are two decisive stages.
In his opening remarks, President Palenfo highlighted the political will demonstrated by the public authorities of Cape Verde to successfully organise both events and push vibrant development based on the life-changing power of sport.
He expressed satisfaction with the harmonious relations between the Government and the NOC of Cape Verde, and predicted a bright future for sport and Olympism in the country.
the president urged NOCs to avail themselves of the opportunity to discuss and outline mechanisms that will help achieve the objectives of 2020, with a futuristic vision that will help consolidate the image of the African Olympic Movement.
On her part, the President of NOC Cape Verde, Filomena Fortes, insisted that hosting the seminar and the maiden continental beach games are part of a strategic option that places the Olympic Movement at the centre of the country’s development effort.
This was confirmed by the Minister of Sports, Fernando Eliseu Freire, who artfully concluded his address thus: “Cape Verde is a small country, but it has an undaunted spirit, will and desire to win.”
In a nutshell, this 34th seminar for Secretaries General of ANOCA is meant to be a seminar of all challenges.
