Tokyo 2020: 3rd NOC Open Days Event Held in Tokyo

Delegations from 14 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) were hosted in Tokyo during 26 to 28 March by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020). The event – the third in a series – formed part of a programme designed to give NOC representatives the opportunity to visit venues that will be used during the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, and to be briefed on the status of preparations for the Games.

A total of 28 members from Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Greece, Guatemala, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Monaco, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, Portugal, Puerto Rico, and Serbia participated.

On the first day of the event, Tokyo 2020 gave the delegations presentations on different aspects of the services it will provide to their NOCs. On the second and the third day, the members visited some of the Tokyo 2020 venues, including the newly opened Musashino Forest Sport Plaza and the construction sites where the Athletes’ Village is taking shape. Mark England of the British Olympic Association said, “The Organising Committee has done an outstanding job. We haven’t had many questions to ask because the venues have been absolutely fantastic. And we know that when the Olympic Games start, our athletes will be in the best of hands with Tokyo 2020.”

Mathias Raymond of the Monegasque Olympic Committee and two-times Olympian said, “It looks very interesting and promising. I am quite impressed by what we’ve seen already, especially the Olympic Stadium. It is still under construction but it’s quite advanced and I didn’t expect that it to be at that height already.”
