ANOC commends NOCs on International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

ANOC today, on the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), celebrated the work of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) around the world in using sport to promote solidarity.

The IDSDP is held annually on 6 April and this year’s theme is ‘Scoring for People and the Planet’ in recognition of how sport can help people and champion climate action.

Speaking on IDSDP, ANOC President Robin Mitchell said:

“At a time of unrest and conflict, we are reminded that sport has a unique power to brining people together and inspiring hope.

“In the Olympic Movement we are united by our shared values and the belief that we are stronger together. Every day we see examples of how NOCs are using sport to break down barriers, raise awareness on key social and environment issues, and influence positive change in their communities.

“Sport cannot solve the world’s problems. But with its global reach, it can make a significant contribution to strengthening social cohesion, encouraging understanding and respect, and promoting peace.”
