ANOC First Sports/Technical Directors Seminar held in Sintra, Portugal
ANOC First Sports/Technical Directors Seminar took place in Sintra, Portugal, from 3 to 6 November, in cooperation with the NOC of Portugal. 55 participants from 41 different NOCs, representing all 5 continents, took part in the event, which was structured in a very interactive format, promoting a deep exchange and free discussion among the participants.
The format was built on presentations from NOCs and small group workshops in 4 different topics:
- Lessons learnt for the future from Tokyo and Beijing, Qualification rules for Olympic and Continental Games.
- Overloaded International Sports Calendar.
- NOCs and athletes and coaches’ engagement outside the Games environment.
- Athletes and official’s social media usage during the Games and its impact on performance.
The feedback from the participants were very positive, setting the expectations for the next event, currently planned for February/March 2023, involving another group of 50 different NOCs.
ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg made the following comments after the end of the discussions in Portugal:
The seminars are a new delivery under ANOC Strategic Plan for 2021-2024, where NOCs had asked for deeper interaction with each other between the Olympic Games, promoting win-win knowledge exchange. This group is a very important stakeholder in our Movement and many of them are in charge of developing the sports and programs within their countries. I am very happy for the positive feedback, and I am convinced that this seminar is a very much needed tool for the development of sports and knowledge in the different NOCs.
ANOC also thanked the Portuguese NOC for the support and good cooperation for the organization of the seminar in Sintra.
