ANOC mourns loss of former ANOC Executive Council member Sir Craig Reedie
It is with great sadness that ANOC has learned that former ANOC Executive Council member and IOC Honorary Member Sir Craig Reedie has passed away at the age of 84.
Sir Craig made an enormous contribution to both the National Olympic Committee family and the Olympic Movement over the course of a career which saw him hold numerous distinguished leadership positions in international sport.
He served on the ANOC Executive Council between 2002 and 2008 and chaired the British Olympic Association from 1992 to 2005, during which time he played a central role in London 2012’s successful Olympic bid.
He joined the IOC as a Member in 1994 and went on to serve on the IOC Executive Board between 2009 and 2012 and as IOC Vice President between 2012 and 2016.
In 2013, Sir Craig became the third President of WADA, helping to lead the organisation through one of its most difficult periods.
Sir Craig received numerous awards and recognitions during his decorated career including the ANOC Award for Contribution to the Olympic Movement in 2022 and the Olympic Order in 2023.
ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg said:
“Few have made such an incredible contribution to the Olympic Movement as Sir Craig; he will be sorely missed by so many of us. He dedicated his life to serving sport and protecting its integrity. Like many individuals in the Olympic Movement, I had the privilege of working with him over many years across his numerous different roles in the IOC, ANOC and the EOC. In all his positions he served with distinction, bringing a wealth of knowledge and insight. As much as we will remember him for his leadership and the sporting legacy he leaves, we will also always remember him for his humour, his enthusiasm and his friendship. Our thoughts are his with family and friends during this very difficult time.”
