NOC Sustainability Dashboard launched to map NOC sustainability progress and identify future action

The NOC Sustainability Dashboard, a joint initiative of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), has been launched to provide a comprehensive overview of sustainability efforts across the global NOC (National Olympic Committees) community.

Inspired by the success of the NOC Social Media Dashboard, launched by ANOC in 2021, the Sustainability Dashboard adopts a similar data-driven and comparative approach, tailored to sustainability. It offers the most up-to-date snapshot of sustainability progress across NOCs, while supporting transparency, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

The Dashboard forms part of the wider ANOC Sustainability Accelerator Programme, an initiative brought to life by the ANOC Sustainability Commission to support NOCs throughout their sustainability journeys. The programme includes a dedicated WhatsApp community connecting NOCs, as well as a series of webinars and workshops designed to share knowledge, build capacity and encourage collaboration.

ANOC Sustainability Commission Chair Victoria Cabezas said:
“The NOC Sustainability Dashboard is an important milestone in strengthening sustainability across the Olympic Movement. It not only allows us to better understand where NOCs stand today, but also provides a clear pathway for progress, encouraging collaboration and the sharing of best practices between organisations.”

ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg added:
“This Dashboard is a key step in ANOC supporting NOCs to advance their sustainability efforts in a structured and measurable way. By providing transparent data, practical guidance and opportunities for collaboration, we are helping to strengthen the role of NOCs in delivering positive impact through sport.”

A data-driven and comparative approach

The NOC Sustainability Dashboard introduces a structured and comparative approach to sustainability. It enables NOCs to better understand their current position, benchmark their progress against similar organisations and identify areas for further development.

To ensure fair comparison, NOCs are not placed in a single unified ranking. Instead, they are automatically grouped into small, medium and large categories, based on factors such as the NOC staff size or the number of athletes who participated in the most recent Summer and Winter edition of the Olympic Games. The evaluation and scoring system is adapted accordingly.

The Dashboard has been developed by IRIS Sports, who also created the NOC Social Media Dashboard, ensuring consistency and a user-friendly experience across both platforms.

Clear framework, regular data collection and progress tracking

The Dashboard is supported by a structured data collection process. NOCs are invited to complete or update their information every six months through a dedicated questionnaire, allowing progress to be monitored over time.

Each update builds on previous submissions, reducing the reporting burden while ensuring that the Dashboard reflects the latest developments across the NOC community.

The Dashboard assesses sustainability performance across five key categories: Organisation & Procurement, Sustainability Strategy, UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action, Sports for Nature and Social Sustainability.

Within each category, NOCs are classified into four levels of maturity – Getting Started, Early Stage, Developing Stage and Advanced Stage – providing a clear pathway for progress and development.

The scoring system has been designed to be as transparent as possible, clearly outlining how results are calculated and how maturity levels are assigned, in response to recurring feedback from NOCs during the testing and review of the Dashboard’s draft version.

Knowledge sharing and tailored recommendations to guide next steps for each NOC

Beyond performance tracking, the Dashboard also serves as a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing across the NOC community. It provides access to sustainability-related documents published by NOCs, enabling organisations to learn from one another, review existing document and build on these existing policies.

In response to feedback received from NOCs during the testing phase, the Dashboard also delivers tailored guidance to support next steps. Based on each NOC’s current status, it identifies for each NOC a key priority area for action, helping organisations focus their efforts and further develop their sustainability strategies in a targeted and practical way.

Accessing the Dashboard

To access the NOC Sustainability Dashboard, users are required to create an individual account via a dedicated registration form. This is the same account used to access the NOC Social Media Dashboard, providing a single entry point to both platforms.

Through this initiative, ANOC and the IOC continue to support NOCs in advancing sustainability and driving positive impact across sport, society and the environment.
