ANOC Sustainability Accelerator Program
Empowering National Olympic Committees through exchange of knowledge

The ANOC Sustainability Accelerator Programme was launched in 2025, following a proposal by the ANOC Sustainability Commission, which had been established in 2023. The Programme was created specifically to support NOCs on their sustainability journey, offering tools, guidance and inspiration to embed sustainable practices within their organisations and initiatives.

This builds upon ANOC’s existing actions in the field. On 17 December 2020, ANOC joined the UNFCCC’s Sports for Climate Action initiative as part of its pledge to minimise its carbon footprint and ensure sustainability is embedded not only into its everyday operations but also into the delivery of its events. The Sports for Climate Action framework helps guide sports organisations in contributing to global climate goals, most notably by committing signatories to halve emissions by 2030 and to achieve net-zero by 2040.

Further reinforcing its dedication, ANOC joined the Race to Zero campaign in December 2023, aligning its vision with the broader global climate movement. In 2024, ANOC expanded its sustainability focus by becoming a signatory of the IUCN Sports for Nature Framework. As a signatory, ANOC has committed to championing nature and contributing to its protection and restoration.

Working in close collaboration with the IOC, ANOC continues to encourage NOCs to sign up for the Sports for Climate Action framework and to take an active role in striving towards climate neutrality. For those NOCs interested in becoming signatories, more information on how to sign up can be found here.

ANOC
Sustainability Pledge

As a signatory of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework, the Association of National Olympic Committees “ANOC” commits to reduce 50% of its emission by 2030 (with 2019 as the base year of comparison), and reach net zero by 2040, not only by carbon credit compensation, but effective emission reduction.

In addition, ANOC commits to

Measurement and transparency: measure ANOC’s emissions every year and publicize the measurement results in the sustainability page of the ANOC website.

Sustainable procurement process: incorporate sustainability in the organization procurement process, becoming a key decision-making factor in parallel to the economic proposals.

Stewardship: make the best possible efforts to support the development of the 206 National Olympic Committees in its sustainability maturity, by sharing tools, knowledge and best practices. As well as equipping them to spread the knowledge on to their own member national federations.

The present commitment shall be updated when deemed necessary, and shall be valid until 31 December 2040, when the situation should be assessed and renewed according to the present scenario at the time.

Sport CO₂ Calculator

Start your climate journey with the OCEAN Sport CO₂ Calculator: a free, smart, and user-friendly tool tailored to the daily operations of sports organisations.

Originally initiated by the EOC EU Office through the OCEAN project, and made possible globally thanks to the support of ANOC and the IOC, the calculator is now available in English, French, and Spanish.

Join the movement, measure your footprint and take the lead in sustainable sport.

Coral Restauration Project

ANOC launched its Coral Garden in Bali in May 2023 with 24 NOCs, planting four reef stars at Nusa Dua Beach. After six months, six coral genera and 13 species had grown successfully.

On 17 May 2025, ANOC expanded the project by adding 10 new reef stars at the Lipah site, attaching 150 coral fragments with support from local divers and volunteers.

This ongoing collaboration with the Blue Harmony Coral Preservation Project continues through 2026, aiming to restore marine biodiversity. Please download the reports here.
