Empowering National Olympic Committees through exchange of knowledge
The ANOC Sustainability Accelerator Programme was launched in 2025, following a proposal by the ANOC Sustainability Commission, which had been established in 2023. The Programme was created specifically to support NOCs on their sustainability journey, offering tools, guidance and inspiration to embed sustainable practices within their organisations and initiatives.
This builds upon ANOC’s existing actions in the field. On 17 December 2020, ANOC joined the UNFCCC’s Sports for Climate Action initiative as part of its pledge to minimise its carbon footprint and ensure sustainability is embedded not only into its everyday operations but also into the delivery of its events. The Sports for Climate Action framework helps guide sports organisations in contributing to global climate goals, most notably by committing signatories to halve emissions by 2030 and to achieve net-zero by 2040.
Further reinforcing its dedication, ANOC joined the Race to Zero campaign in December 2023, aligning its vision with the broader global climate movement. In 2024, ANOC expanded its sustainability focus by becoming a signatory of the IUCN Sports for Nature Framework. As a signatory, ANOC has committed to championing nature and contributing to its protection and restoration.
Working in close collaboration with the IOC, ANOC continues to encourage NOCs to sign up for the Sports for Climate Action framework and to take an active role in striving towards climate neutrality. For those NOCs interested in becoming signatories, more information on how to sign up can be found here.
