2nd PyeongChang Peace Forum held on second year anniversary of PyeongChang 2018
The 2nd PyeongChang Peace Forum was organised in PyeongChang on the two year anniversary of the opening of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018.
Around 1.000 participants from local authorities and NGOs from the whole world as well as students from the Gangwon Province attended the three day forum which was organised in cooperation with the Korean Government, The Province and the PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation which is chaired by the Korean athlete and IOC member Ryu Seung Min.
Keynote speakers at the Opening Ceremony were Ban Ki Moon and the former prime minister of Norway, Mrs. Gro Harlem Bruntland. ANOC Secretary General and IOC member Gunilla Lindberg, who also chaired the IOC Coordination Commission for the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, made a presentation about the success of the Games and also stated the strong power of sports and Olympic values when it comes to relations between countries and building bridges between NOCs and the youth of the world. The hosting of the upcoming Youth Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang in 2024 will be another legacy of Olympic values and gives the youth of the world the possibility to enjoy the former Olympic Host city and its excellent venues as well as the great hospitality and friendship of the Korean Sports Movement and the Korean authorities. The hope for further cooperation and joint teams and organisation between the North and South Korea as was such a fantastic legacy from the Olympic Winter Games 2018 was also strongly supported.
The PyeongChang Peace Forum is a platform of dialogue for building sustainable peace and development in commemoration of the PyeongChang Olympics in 2018 and the delegates from all over the world could discuss different topics in a number of panel discussions. The next forum will be Organised in PyeongChang on 9th of February 2021.
