Adriana Ruano on target for Guatamala’s first Olympic gold medal
Adriana Ruano has made history for Guatalama as her country’s first athlete in any sport to win an Olympic gold medal.
Ruano not only won gold in the women’s trap but set a new Olympic record with a score of 45. Italy’s Silvana Maria Stanco took silver with Australia’s Penny Smith taking bronze.
“I can’t even believe it’s for real. I’m so happy. I’m honoured to be here, and it wasn’t easy to get here again. I want to thank Guatemala, and also my father,” Ruano said refecting on her medal.
“I hope more people can do the same or more for the sport. We only have one (shooting) range, so I hope this will make the sport bigger and more people will try it.”
