Bhaker wins India’s first women’s Olympic medal in shooting
Manu Bhaker has become the first woman to win an Olympic medal for India in shooting as she claimed bronze in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol on 28 July.
Gold and silve medals went to Korea’s Ye Jin Oh and Yeji Kim respectively.
Bhaker was in second place late in the competition but lost out silver to Kim by 0.1 points.
“I am happy to do this for my country and my people, and you always need to be on your toes and be prepared,” Bhaker said. “I’m very grateful for this medal, and it was long due for this medal. I have three more events and three more matches to shoot. I hope India finishes strong and win as many medals as possible in shooting and in other events.”
“I would like to dedicate this medal to all the people who were looking forward to the Olympics in Paris 2024 and everyone who had faith in us, who believed and supported us in this journey – my family, my friends, the federation and so many other people. The list goes on and on. I’m really grateful for the opportunity and that I could win a medal for my country.”
