NOC Sri Lanka hosts OVEP Debater 2020
The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka conducted the Olympic Values Education Programme – Debater (OVEP Debater) under the auspices of Olympic Solidarity and Olympic Council of Asia virtually from 14 to 23 November 2020.
A total of 20 schools were given the opportunity to take part in Round 1 and Round 2 without any elimination. Based on the total marks obtained from both rounds, the best eight teams were eligible for the ‘Super 8’ round. Round 1 and Round 2 were be held on 14 and 15 November via Zoom.
In an all female final on 23 November, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya prevailed over Hillwood College, Kandy on the subject Engaging in sport by practicing Olympic Values teach the athletes to overcome barriers of Life”
The participating schools for the OVEP Debater 2020 this year were– Anuradhapura Central College, Bishops’ College, Chundikuli Girls College – Jaffna, Dharmaraja College, Gateway College – Colombo, Gateway College – Dehiwala, Girls’ High School, Good Shepherd Convent, Hillwood College – Kandy, Mw Pinnawala Central College – Kegalle, Mahamaya Girls’ College – Kandy, Methodist College, Musaeaus College, Royal College – Colombo, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya – Colombo, St. John’s College – Jaffna, St. Thomas College – Bandarawela, Trinity College – Kandy, Vincent Girls’ High School – Batticaloa and Devi Balika Vidyalaya – Colombo.
The main objective of the OVEP Debater 2020 is to educate school children in the Olympic Values.
