Qatar 2019 champion Sandra Sanchez of Spain adds Olympic crown to her collection
ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019 champion Sandra Sanchez of Spain won the first ever karate Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020 in the women’s kata.
Sanchez had won gold in beach kata and reinforced her position as the world’s best in the sport here in Tokyo. The defending world champion overcame Japan’s SHIMIZU Kiyou in the final with a score of 28.06 points.
“It is crazy. I am so emotional, I am feeling so many things together. I am happy, but I want to cry,” said Sanchez.
“I think I need more time to believe that this is real. I want to see my kata and make sure it happened, because right now I can’t believe it.
“This was the perfect final, with SHIMIZU, in Japan, at the Budokan. This really is the best moment. It is amazing.”
