Romanian Olympism celebrates 103 years

Olympic Movement in Romania today celebrates 103 years since the founding of the Romanian Olympic Committee (COR). According to historians, on March 27, 1914 is deemed to have taken birth COR. At this time, at the request of George Plagino member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to Romania (between 1908-1948), was appointed the first delegate of Romania at the International Congress CIO in June 1914 in Paris.

The former COR members were George V. Bibescu, dr. Ion Costinescu Ion N. Cămărăşescu, prof. G Murgoci C. Samurcaş Carol Davila-Pia, Dinu Cesianu, Grigore Caracostea, ing. C. Iliescu – Brânceni Ion Nicolaescu, George Iconomu George Plagino currently Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) counting 122 members. In the 103 years of history into five circles Olympic Romanian athletes won 307 medals, of which 306 (89 gold, 95 silver and 122 bronze) in Olympic Games, the first edition that took held in Paris in 1924 to the Rio edition, 2016, and a bronze at bobsled two people at the winter Olympics in Grenoble, 1968.

In 2004, the year on April 23 Romanian Olympic Committee (COR) became Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) Olympism Romanian celebrated 90 years of existence, among the prominent guests attending the celebration are found: Jacques Rogge, President CIO at that time. Octavian Morariu, the 15th president of the Romanian Olympic forum and the first leader after turning COR in COSR confirmed IOC member for Romania on October 10, 2013, in Buenos Aires (Argentina), who held the Board meetings of the IOC and the 125th Session of the IOC after 15 years in which Romania has had no representative in the forum IOC.
