EOC holds Chefs de Mission Seminar for Winter EYOF Brașov 2027

Representatives from 38 of Europe’s National Olympic Committees (NOCs) gathered in Brașov, Romania, for the first Chefs de Mission Seminar ahead of the 18th Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), scheduled for 14–21 February 2027.

The two-day meeting brought NOC delegations together with the Brașov 2027 Organising Committee and the European Olympic Committees (EOC) to review preparations for the event, which is expected to welcome around 1,000 athletes aged 14 to 18.

The first day featured presentations covering key operational areas, including athlete registration and accreditation, transport, accommodation, medical services, anti-doping, safeguarding, volunteers, IT, ceremonies, media, security, sustainability and sport.

Delegations also received updates on competition venues outside Brașov, including the ice hockey venue in Târgu Secuiesc and the 3×3 ice hockey venue in Sfântu Gheorghe.

The second day focused on venue inspections across the region. NOC representatives visited Cheile Grădiștei Resort, Predeal, Râșnov and Poiana Brașov, touring Athletes’ Villages and venues for sports including biathlon, figure skating, short track speed skating, ski mountaineering, cross-country skiing, snowboard, ski jumping and alpine skiing. The programme concluded with a visit to the Brașov ice hockey venue, which will host the boys’ tournament.

EOC EYOF Commission Chair Líney Rut Halldórsdóttir highlighted the progress made across the venues and praised the Organising Committee’s preparations as the festival approaches.

Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee President Mihai Covaliu also described the seminar as an important milestone, emphasising Romania’s ambition to showcase its sporting tradition and hospitality.

The Winter EYOF will bring together young athletes from across Europe and provide many participants with their first experience of an international multi-sport event, while introducing them to the Olympic values and spirit of Olympism.

With preparations continuing across the host region, Brașov 2027 is now entering an important phase ahead of the opening of the festival in February.
