Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games gets underway with spectacular Opening Ceremony

The Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) got underway with a spectacular opening ceremony on 9 January as local young people entertained 8,000 spectators with seven stories emphasising the Olympic Spirit and the theme of ‘Home’.

Athletes from 79 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) took part in the flag parade and were treated to a warm and loud welcome from the spectators in the arena.

The Ceremony was broadcast live by the Olympic Channel and celebrated Swiss culture and traditions and involved a number of famous Swiss athletes.

The sports competitions have official begun today with Alpine Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Ice Hockey and Ski Mountaineering all underway.
