Lima 2027 Pan American Games Unveils Official Mascot

A charming gecko, an endemic species native to the city of Lima, was officially selected as the Official Mascot of the Lima 2027 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

The proposal received a total of 11,038 public votes through the Lima 2027 website. A total of 30,123 votes were cast. The other two finalists were Kusi, a charismatic sea lion, which received 8,328 votes, and Sisa, inspired by the Amancaes flower, which received 10,757 votes. To ensure the transparency of the process, the vote count was certified by Notary Public Mónica Tambini.

The winning design was submitted to the Panam Sports Executive Committee, which validated and ultimately approved it.

Present at the announcement ceremony was Sergio Ludeña, President of the Lima 2027 Organizing Committee and the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), who made the official announcement:

“I am pleased to announce that the proposal selected as the Official Mascot of the Lima 2027 Games is Rimo. We thank everyone who supported the finalist proposals through the Lima 2027 website, and we invite you to stay tuned for the exciting news we will be sharing in the coming days.”

Erica Lang, Director of Planning and Operational Management for the Lima 2027 Pan American and Parapan American Games Organizing Committee, highlighted the importance of the mascot:

“The mascot builds identity. It reflects the characteristics that define Lima, our host city, and ultimately represents all Peruvians. The mascot truly becomes an iconic ambassador of every multi-sport event.”

She also emphasized the outstanding public participation:

“We wanted to create a contest that would allow the public to participate and feel part of the mascot selection process. The response was remarkable and exceeded participation levels from previous Games. The choice was made entirely by the public through a fully transparent process, and as a result, Rimo will accompany us throughout our journey to the Games.”
