Santiago 2023 Coordination Commission Meeting in Chile

Panam Sports and Santiago 2023 had their new Coordination Commission (CoComm) meeting last week in order to review the state of progress towards hosting the Games that will take place in the country next year and will feature approximately 7,000 athletes from 41 countries.

Panam Sports was represented in the meeting by President Neven Ilic, Vice President Mario Moccia and Secretary General Ivar Sisniega, as well as its Follow-Up Commission members.

Representing Santiago 2023 were board members Miguel Angel Mujica and Aquiles Gomez in addition to staff members from both organisations.

“It is important that the members of the Commission can see this first-hand. Let them see the effort that Santiago, the Government and Santiago 2023 are making. We are working well. We are here to help, collaborate and guide them. That is the function that we are going to fulfill,” said Panam Sports President Neven Ilic.

“We have worked very well together with the Panam Sports team. We intend to demonstrate all of the advancements we have made. We have been working very hard with the National Sports Institution and the Ministry of Sports to make progress and speed up the infrastructure processes,” said Santiago 2023 Executive Director Gianna Cunazza.

Chilean Sports Minister Alexandra Benado and regional Governor Claudio Orrego — recently appointed as a member of the Board of Directors — will join the upcoming sessions of the CoComm.

The Sheraton Hotel also provided the opportunity for the Medical Commission led by Dr. Bernardo Chernilo to meet and develop their plans to monitor fair play at this important sporting event.

The XIX Pan American Games of Santiago 2023 will take place from October 20 to November 5, 2023 and will bring together more than 7,000 athletes from 41 countries.
