The African Olympic movement charts course in harmony

At the invitation of ANOCA President, Mustapha Berraf, the Sports Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Professor Ashraf Sobhy, and his counterpart of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mr François-Claude KABULO MWANA KABULO, met to discuss ways to  strengthen the close ties existing between their two countries in the area of sports, in keeping with the Olympic spirit as advocated by ANOCA.

Following meaningful discussions and as part of sports agreements between the various entities, the three parties jointly decided to support Egypt’s bid to host the 2027 African Games. This decision is in line with the shared desire to promote sporting excellence in Africa and meet the international standards of Games in accordance with the Olympic Charter.

The Democratic Republic of Congo reasserts its commitment to the African Sports Movement by opting to host the African Games in 2031. Both countries will work closely together, in consultation with ANOCA and all stakeholders, to ensure the overall success of the 2027 Africa Games in Egypt. This will be a pioneering initiative in the lead-up to the 2031 Games in the Democratic Republic of Congo and will involve exchange of expertise.

This strengthened collaboration between ANOCA, Egypt and the DRC aims to foster a spirit of fraternity and cooperation within the African Sports Movement, thus contributing to the achievement of common sport development goals on the continent.

The signatories have expressed confidence in the success of the forthcoming African Games and reiterated their commitment to sport development in Africa in compliance with the provisions of the Olympic Charter.

In its capacity as the legal representative of National Olympic Committees of Africa, ANOCA, for its part, will be responsible for harmonising the operation, organisation and management between the parties and the relevant NOCs, in this case the NOCs of Egypt and the DRC.
