WADA launches Sport Values Online, an interactive module for children involved in sport
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is pleased to announce the launch of “Sport Values Online,” an interactive, digital module for children engaged in sport on its Anti-Doping Education and Learning platform (ADEL). It complements the “Sport Values in Every Classroom” toolkit for teachers that was released in October 2019.
The existing teachers’ toolkit, available in English, French and Spanish, is a free, cross-curricular resource for teachers of students ages 8 to 12 that aims to help instill some of the core values synonymous with sport: respect, equity and inclusion. It was developed by the following six international organizations, collectively referred to as the “Education Partnership,”: WADA; the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); the Agitos Foundation; the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE); the International Fair Play Committee (IFPC); and, the Olympic Foundation for Cultural Heritage (OFCH).
The interactive, digital module that WADA is launching today, “Sport Values Online,” is a complementary resource to the teachers’ toolkit that provides children with a fun and engaging way to learn about the values of respect, equity and inclusion. Full of games, scenarios, movement-based activities and reflection questions, it is designed for children ages 8 to 12 and can be completed independently or with the support of an adult, such as a parent, teacher, or coach.
WADA Director of Education, Amanda Hudson, said: “We are excited to launch a values-based, digital education solution for young athletes that the anti-doping community may use to complement their own education programs. Research has shown that values-based education is a leading strategy in the protection of clean sport and that instilling values at an early age matters. Our new Sport Values Online module supports our efforts to have an educational option for each stage of the athlete pathway, enabling Anti-Doping Organizations to deliver progressive education that is relevant to an athlete’s development.”
Both children and adults can access Sport Values Online through ADEL, receiving badges and a certificate once completed. Registration is required and normal safety protocols exist for registrants under the age of 16.
Sport Values Online is currently available in English only as a pilot module. It includes a survey at the end for users to provide feedback on the module, which will be used to inform the final version that is likely to launch by the start of 2023 in English, French and Spanish.
