ANOC and NOCs unanimously support principles established by IOC Executive Board

ANOC and the 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have unanimously supported the principles established by the IOC Executive Board in regards to the preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the containment of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The IOC, led by IOC President Thomas Bach, held conference calls with each of the five Continental Associations and NOCs from those respective continents. The IOC expressed their commitment to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and delivered a strong message that NOCs and their athletes should continue to prepare for the Games as best they can.

During the calls, the NOC voted unanimously to support the IOC principles that had been communicated.

The IOC will come back with more information regarding qualification for Tokyo 2020 at the beginning of April. The IOC made it clear that they will continue to closely follow the COVID-19 outbreak in cooperation with task force set up in mid-February, which comprises representatives from the IOC, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Japanese authorities and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
