
NOCs promote Olympic spirit around the world on Olympic Day
National Olympic Committees (NOCs) around the world are today celebrating Olympic Day as they encourage the people of their countries to get active and live healthy lifestyles.
Through the work of the NOCs, International and National Federations, Organising Committees, National Olympians Associations and Young Ambassadors, nearly six million people of all ages and abilities took part in Olympic Day activities which promoted the Olympic values and got them active.
Below is a selection of some of the many NOC Olympic Day celebrations which took place.
The Albanian National Olympic Committee celebrated through the “Olympic Education in the school” project in 13 Regional Education Directorates, including 312 schools. While Olympic Day activates were organised in 20 cities with the participation of 250 schools and more than 5,000 students.
The Australian Olympic Committee encouraged athletes and Olympians to return to school during the month of June to share their inspirational sporting journeys with the next generation.
The Argentinian Olympic Committee, National Federations and Organising Committee of the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games hosted a celebration of sport, culture, education and Olympic values. Each National Federation was given a platform to showcase their sport and give participants an opportunity to try it out.
The Colmobian Olympic Committee celebrated Olympic Day with a 7km cross country race at the San Andréas Park.
The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China held an Olympic Fun Adventure (orienteering event) and Family Run events at the Ocean Park Hong Kong. There was also a special 2017 Olympic Day Event Ceremony and sports demonstrations and trials to gives guests the opportunity to experience new sports and learn more about the Olympic Movement.
The Maltese Olympic Committee organised its annual Olympic Day Run with people of all ages and abilities running along the St. Julian’s, Sliema, Gzira sea front.
The Nepal Olympic Committee inaugurated a week-long function in coordination with 25 different sports associations to mark Olympic Day 2017. More than 5,000 participants took part in the activities over the course of the week which included charity competitions and cultural programmes
The Turkish Olympic Committee’s Olympic Day activities ran from 30 April to 6 June and reached over 3000 children across Turkey, including Syrian refugees. Children in Gaziantep, Mugla, Antalya, Samsun and Istanbul all took part in a wide range of fun and engaging outdoor activities aimed at educating them on healthy lifestyles, the environment, nutrition, ethics in sport and Olympic values.
