
Sheikh Ahmad re-elected unopposed as OCA President
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah was re-elected unopposed as OCA President for a four year term, which he will serve between 2015 and 2019, during the 34th OCA General Assembly held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on 15-16 September 2015. After his re-election, Sheikh Ahmad spoke of his aim to engage youth-groups and also his vision to use technology more with a promise to make the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou the “smart” Games.
Ahead of his re-election, the ANOC President presented President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan with the ANOC Merit Award. President Berdimuhamedov was recognised by ANOC for his outstanding contribution to the promotion of sport in Turkmenistan which is set to host the 5thAsian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in September 2017.In his welcoming address Sheikh Ahmad praised the vision of President Berdimuhamedov in providing sport facilities that will serve Turkmenistan and the wider Asian sports movement as a whole.
OCA Merit Awards were also presented to Chang Ung (DPR Korea), Ibrahim Ismail Ali (Maldives), Pang Chung (Hong Kong, China) and Bahrullo Radzhabaliev (Tajikistan) in recognition of their services to sport in their own countries.
The newly built Martial Arts Centre in the Ashgabat Olympic Village hosted the historic OCA General Assembly which was attended by NOC Presidents from 62 countries, including NOCs from ONOC for the first time following the agreement that they will compete in the AIMAG 2017. ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg also attended the General Assembly and gave a presentation in which she updated the NOCs on ANOC’s latest activities.
