Algerian Olympic Committee organizes reforestation operation in Souidania: «Plant for Algeria – Plant for the World»

On April 11th, 2015, the Algerian Olympic Sports Committee (AOC) launched, in association with the General Forestry Authority, the General Civil Protection Authority, the national sports federations, the Algerian Muslim scouts and the Soudainia APC, a planting operation of one thousand trees at the new Sports Talents and Elite Training and Gathering Center – Soudainia – Alger, under the slogan: « Plant for Algeria – Plant for the Planet ».

The start of the operation was given by Mr. Mustapha BERRAF, president of the Algerian Olympic Sports Committee, Mr. Monsieur Mustapha LAHBIRI, Director General of the Civil Protection Authority, and the president of the Soudainia APC in the presence of members of the AOC and of national sports federations.  

Olympic champions Mrs. Nouria BENIDA MERAH and Abderahmane HEMMAD took part in the tree planting operation.

Mr. Mustapha BERRAF, president of the Algerian Olympic Sports Committee, laid out the objectives of the operation.

By launching this activity, the AOC sought to:

• Underline the involvement and commitment of the Algerian and International Olympic Movement in the field of the conservation of nature and the environment;  
• Draw attention on the role of vegetation and green spaces on the evolution of climate on our planet;
• Encourage a greater  respect for plantations and green spaces in national sports venues;
• Underline the patrimonial value of trees.  

This environmental operation will be followed by other actions on the AOC’s agenda in 2015.
