Czech Olympic Committee presents ‘ASAP’ Sustainability Strategy and Manual

The Czech Olympic Committee (COV) has published its ASAP sustainability strategy which will help guide the organisaiton’s own sustainable practices and as well as a manual which is aimed at supporting other sports organisations.

The strategy and manual are the outcome of a project initiatied in 2020 under the acronym ASAP meaning AS SUSTAINABLE AS POSSIBLE.ASAP was established in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee and is co-financed by the European Union’s Erasmus + program. Its main output was the ASAP Roadmap manual, which offers a framework for creating a fully-fledged sustainability strategy. Thanks to sufficient flexibility and the possibility of adapting to different conditions, it can be used by sports organizations of different sizes and orientations from different parts of the world. ASAP Roadmap is complemented by a number of useful tools that will facilitate the entire strategy development process for sports organizations.

“Sustainability is one of the pillars of the International Olympic Committee and has become our long-term goal,” describes Roman Kumpošt, COV Deputy Chairman for International Relations.

COV President Jiří Kejval added: “Not only in sports, but also in other areas of life, sustainability is a big topic and we also perceive its urgent importance. However, this is often not an easy area for sports organizations, as in many cases they face a shortage of people who could focus on sustainability beyond other responsibilities. But we know they are interested in the topic. That’s why we decided to start with ourselves and take on the role of project leader. We believe that we will be able to set the right direction within the functioning of the entire institution and we will inspire others with our actions. ”

In its strategy, the Czech Olympic Committee focused on four main areas, among which, in addition to environmental issues, it includes, for example, economic aspects and the development of human potential. “We want to use the chosen approach both in everyday activities and in the organization of events and project implementation,” added Roman Kumpošt.

The ASAP project lasts until the end of 2022 and its main part will be closed by a conference to be held in October in Prague. You can find more about the whole project HERE .
