Liechtenstein Olympic Committee Delegates Assembly strengthens grassroots sports
At the 29th Delegates Assembly of the Liechtenstein Olympic Committee (LOC), the delegates unanimously approved an amendment to the statutes and thus the introduction of a grassroots sports committee. This will significantly strengthen grassroots sports. Stefan Marxer was also re-elected as president of the LOC.
76 delegates from the member associations as well as 3 honorary members came together on Wednesday, 18th of May for the 29th delegates assembly of the LOC in the community hall of Ruggell, Liechtenstein. The following resolutions were passed:
- The delegates unanimously approved the amendment of the LOC statutes and thus the establishment of a Grassroots Sports Committee. In future, this committee will be jointly responsible for promotional measures and the strategic orientation of the LOC in mass sports. Jessica Briker (Liechtenstein Ski Association) and Matilda Wunderlin (Special Olympics Liechtenstein) were elected as the first association representatives in this newly created committee.
- Due to the change in the statutes, the LOC board must be composed of at least 30% women and at least 30% men in the future.
- Stefan Marxer was re-elected as president of the LOC for a additional further term of office until 2026.
- S.H. Princess Anunciata von und zu Liechtenstein (previously), Peter Näff (previously) and Johanna Heeb (new) were elected or re-elected as members of the board.
- The delegates confirmed Stephi Vogt (athletes’ representative), Marco Büchel (winter sports representative) and Martin Püntener (summer sports representative) as members of the Elite Sports Committee for a mandate period until 2026.
- The annual report and the annual accounts of 2021 were approved by the assembly of delegates.
- The decision on the 2023 budget was postponed, as the contributions to sports promotion are dependent on the new performance agreement between the government of Liechtenstein and the LOC as well on the financial decision by the parliament.
- Wolfgang Schädler, Marco “Büxi” Büchel and Peter Frommelt were elected honorary members of the LOC for their services to Liechtenstein sport.
As the Night of Sports 2021 could not take place in the usual setting, the delegates assembly was used to honour Michael Lampert for winning the vice world championship title in kickboxing. In addition, the Olympic athletes Julia Hassler, Lara Mechnig, Marluce Schierscher and Christoph Meier were bid farewell together with Michael Lampert. All five athletes retired in the past sporting year.
