National Olympic Committee of El Salvador provide athletes with exercise bikes to keep active at home
The National Olympic Committee of El Salvador has helped its Team ESA athletes remain active during self-quarantine by providing them with stationery exercise bikes.
“For us, health is being able to stay active. An athlete without activity is not a healthy athlete, ”said Eduardo Palomo, President of the NOC. “Therefore, the technical team of the Committee obtained stationary bikes and distributed them to the homes of some athletes so that they do not miss a beat.”
Athletes to receive bikes were karate players Gabriela Izaguirre and Alejandro Jurado, the shooters Ana Ramírez and Johana Pineda, the archers Marcela Cortez, Jorge and Óscar Ticas, the boxer Argentina Solórzano, the athletes Idelma Delgado and Nancy Sandoval, the weightlifter Julio Salamanca and the judoka Diego Turcios.
“The idea of obtaining equipment for athletes came from discussions between the technical team of the Olympic Committee and the coaches. It was essential to give athletes a tool so that they can continue to maintain their physical condition and preparation, as far as possible, since we know the limitations. We do not know how long the quarantine will be extended, but it is important not to spend time without moving, so this dose of cardio is going to serve everyone, “explained María José Escobar, Team ESA Technical Sports Coordinator.
Gabriela Izaguirre, from karate do, says that she received a stationary bicycle and put it in her room: “I am very happy and grateful for what they have given me. I will be using it every day for half an hour, when I finish my training and it will benefit me, since in addition to burning calories I will improve my endurance and physical condition. ”
For his part, Alejandro Jurado said that he is using it twice a day: “in the morning training and also in the afternoon. In total, about 75 minutes between the two sessions, accompanied by music. It suits me very well, I installed it in the patio of my house ”.
“I am very grateful to the Committee, since we had become accustomed to running every morning and now we could no longer,” said Ana Ramírez. He added: “So having something like that at home helps us a lot, especially to strengthen the joints.” For his colleague Johanna Pineda, this is “a tool that is very useful to us because we have it in our own home. With this we do cardio, which is essential in shooting ”.
Idelma Delgado, who lives in Candelaria de la Frontera, also installed her exercise bike in her home: “Now that you can’t go out, this type of device is very practical for us. I thank you very much, ”said the marathon runner.
