Somalia NOC commemorates International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Somalia NOC to celebrate the day in collaboration with Somali Federal
Government’s Ministry of Youth and Sport organized number of activities in different parts of the country.

Recalling: the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of resolution 67/296 of International day of Sport for Development and Peace, on 23 August 2013.

Reaffirming: the IOC President’s call towards NOC’s to Celebrate 6 of April with sport, educational and cultural activities in relation with sport as tool for peace and development.

Somalia NOC to celebrate the day in collaboration with Somali Federal
Government’s Ministry of Youth and Sport organized number of activities in
different parts of the country.

The day’s events included:

Sporting activities such as: Athletics, basketball, taekwondo and other traditional
sports. There was also number of workshops and seminars, as well as cultural events,
emphasizing the crucial role of sport on development and peace.

Somalia as a country that went through decades of conflict and chaos is clear
example of how sport can play a vital role in community cohesion and the
reconstruction of country and people.
