NOC Chinese Taipei Advocates Environmental Sustainability Activities

The Sports and Environment Committee under the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee is actively promoting environmental sustainability by setting up promotional booths and extending its reach to the younger generation during two large-scale sport events-the National High School Games and the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games held from April 19-24 and April 27-May 2,2025 in Tainan, it can effectively raise awareness among young participants regarding climate change and sustainable development. Encouraging the development of energy-saving and carbon-reducing habits in daily life is even more crucial. If athletes and students can practice these habits in their daily routines, they can bring the concept of sustainability to a wider community, forming a positive force.

With the aim of setting up the advocate activities during the sport events, the promotional booth for the quiz competition attracted many young participating athletes and coaches to participate together and Interact. It is not only about knowledge transfer but also emphasizes the establishment of concepts and the cultivation of habits, which is vital for the long-term promotion of net-zero carbon emissions. Since the year 2023, by conducting environmental sustainability awareness activities during the National High School Games and the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, the initiative has received positive responses from participating athletes, coaches, and the public. Considerable success has further highlighted the significance of continuing these advocacy and awareness activities to exert broader educational influence.

Setting up promotional booths and teaching practical ways to practice environmental protection in sports during the Games will also allow the concept of environmental sustainability to take deeper root, moving beyond just a slogan. Overall, incorporating energy-saving and carbon-reducing environmental measures into sports events, teaching the use of recyclable or biodegradable tableware, setting up recycling stations, encouraging public transportation, reducing energy consumption, and other practical actions can enable participants to more concretely understand the meaning of sustainable development. It is believed that the booth promotional activities can effectively allow participants to practice sustainable environmental protection for net-zero carbon emissions through sports.
