NOC Hong Kong President welcomes government measures to develop Hong Kong sport

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee Ka-chiu, announced a series of measures to reinforce sports development in Hong Kong.

The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) welcomes the initiatives and will render full support to the implementation of sports policies of the HKSAR Government to promote sports development, support elite sports, enhance professionalism, maintain Hong Kong as a centre for major international sports events, develop sports as an industry and promote sports in the community.

The Policy Address proposes that the Government will collaborate with SF&OC to offer more professional training and internship opportunities to coaches.

Mr. Timothy Fok, President of SF&OC, said: “On the basis of our foundation, we will continue to work hand in hand with national sports associations to uplift the professional standards and accreditation of our coaches so as to keep pace with the latest developments in the sports sector.

“Professional medical teams are the strongest support for athletes. SF&OC is delighted to see that the Government will strengthen the development of sports science and medicine to provide more medical and rehabilitation support to the athletes so that they can pursue their dreams without worries.”

The Policy Address also proposes that the Government collaborate with SF&OC to organise Festival of Sport events on the Sport for All Day.

Mr Fok added: “SF&OC has always been committed to cultivating a strong sporting culture in the community and promoting sports for all. In this connection, we will also continue to collaborate with schools and charity groups to provide students with progressive sports experience, and foster the connection between sports and the community.”

SF&OC is delighted to see that more major sports events will be staged in Hong Kong, injecting new energy to the development of the sports industry. SF&OC will continue to render full support to the athletes and promotion of sports for all.
