Thailand’s Olympic champions come out to run on Olympic Day

Bangkok, Thailand, June 25, 2019: Former Olympic champions as well as athletes still with stars in their eyes were among thousands of participants at Thailand Olympic Day 2019 held on 16th June.

Khemmatat Janprapa and Kalaya Suddai beat competition from more than 10,000 runners to win the men’s and women’s 10 km events at Supachalasai National Stadium, the venue for the Olympic Day celebrations.

Among the big names at this year’s annual event were former Olympic champions, including Somluck Khamsing, Thailand’s first Olympic gold medal-winning boxer, Atlanta 1996; Paweea Thongsuk, weightlifting gold medallist from the 2004 Athens Games; Somjit Jongjohor, boxing gold medallist at 2008 Bejiing Games; and Yaowapa Booripolchai, taekwondo bronze medallist at the 2004 Games.

National Olympic Committee of Thailand President General Prawit Wongsuwan said: “Judging from the number of participants this year, it proves that people pay more attention to running and exercise, which leads to good health and longevity.”
