THE SPANISH OLYMPIC COMMITTEE CELEBRATES 1992 BARCELONA OLYMPICS AT ITS 12th GALA
The 12th Gala of the Spanish Olympic Committee was celebrated last March 13, paying tribute to the medallists of 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
Following last year’s 25th Anniversary of Barcelona 1992, the ceremony saw the honourable participation of HM King Felipe VI.
The Spanish Olympic Committee showed its best finery to host a large number of representatives of the Spanish Olympic Team that allowed the Spanish sport to leap to the golden age, which Spain continues to enjoy today.
In addition to King, the Gala hosted Minister of Education, Culture and Sports Iñigo Méndez de Vigo, President of the Spanish Olympic Committee Alejandro Blanco, President of the Sports Council José Ramón Lete, IOC Member José Perurena, as well as several Presidents of federations, sportsmen and authorities.
The gold medallists of the great Catalan event had the honour of being awarded by HM King Felipe VI and NOC President Alejandro Blanco.
HM King Felipe VI addressed the large audience recalling his experience as the bearer of the Spanish Olympic Team during the spectacular Opening Ceremony. Likewise, he remarked the great contribution that the successful organisation of the Games gave to the country, enhancing its international image, as well as the feeling of pride for the Spanish athletes.
He also referred to the outstanding role of women in Spanish sport, stating that they began as pioneers with some trouble and they turn out to be the real leaders of our time, as shown by their excellent results.
Alejandro Blanco highlighted the golden age of Spanish sport that began in 1992 and that Spain still benefits today, highlighting how sport is “the great ambassador of Spanish brand” at international level.
After his speech, Blanco delivered to the King an ingot as a sign of recognition of the Olympic diploma received on occasion of his participation at 1992 Barcelona Games.
The unforgettable chords of “Amigos para siempre” and a music video showing the best moments of the Gala were the icing on the cake of the event celebrating the heroes of Barcelona 1992.
