Barranquilla, Pan American Games 2027 gets to work
Just five years and seven months remain until Colombia’s beautiful Atlantic city of Barranquilla welcomes the most important sporting event on the continent and the biggest, most transcendental event held in the country in decades — the 2027 Pan American Games.
Although it seems like an eternity, the truth is that the city of Barranquilla, the Colombian Olympic Committee and Panam Sports have already “started up the machine”.
“We can say that this first official visit is the starting point on this long journey that we will take together and I believe that our visit was very well received by the people of Barranquilla,” said Panam Sports Secretary General Ivar Sisniega.
The visit consisted of a series of workshops, transfer of knowledge sessions and presentations by the Panam Sports staff which also included the official delivery of the Pan American Games Manual.
“We finished a very successful and productive visit to the Host City of the Barranquilla 2027 Pan American Games. They were very important meetings since we were able to transfer our knowledge and our very detailed Manual from Panam Sports that gives the Organizing Committee all of the details that are required for the jobs waiting for them. I was very pleased with the presence and commitment of the government, local and sports authorities,” added Sisniega who led the meetings with Mayor Jaime Pumarejo.
The Mayor once again reiterated his commitment and the commitment of Colombian President Ivan Duque to the Games. He assured that they will keep everything well on track until there is a leadership change due to elections.
“We are here with a common objective, with a single purpose and that is to deliver the best Pan American Games. Now we have to plan them. We have a national government committed to leaving these Games projected and financed before the process is finished. I believe that we have a chance of a calm planning period and construction timelines for these Games thanks to the President’s commitment,” said Mayor Pumarejo.
In addition to meetings, there were also visits to sports venues including the Universidad del Atlantico and the Universidad del Norte, venues that were recently used for the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2018.
Barranquilla, the Golden Gate of the Colombian Atlantic, has already started its countdown to the 2027 Pan American Games, the most important sporting event in the history of the beautiful city.
