Dakar 2022 Youth Olympic Games dates and sports announced

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) today announced that following extensive consultation with National Olympic Committees, International Federations and the IOC Athletes’ Commission, the Dakar 2022 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will take place on 22 October -9 November 2022.

The dates have been chosen to benefit the large majority of athletes and their school curriculum. It will also mean the YOG takes place at the start of the dry season and coincides with Africa Youth Day in Senegal.

The IOC EB also announced it has approved Dakar 2020 Organising Committee’s request to add baseball5 and wushu to the sports programme. The proposal had been examined by the Olympic Programme Commission, which determined that both sports would benefit the Senegalese youth – a key pillar of Dakar 2022’s vision for the YOG. It is also hoped the addition will help the two sports develop further within Africa.
