Tokyo 2020 launches new emblem for Olympic Games

Tokyo 2020 unveiled their new emblem on Monday which reflects the spirit of the Olympic Games, drawing on Japanese tradition and the message of unity in diversity.

A total of 14,599 entrants from all over the world submitted designs before the Tokyo 2020 Emblems Selection Committee whittled it down to a shortlist of four. The public was then invited to select its favourite logo with more than 40,000 people providing their views on the designs.

The winning design, by designer Asao Tokolo, is a circular pattern made up of different rectangular shapes representing the coming together of the world’s NOCs with varying cultures and ways of thinking.  There are currently 206 NOCs around the world all of whom are united in their desire to promote Olympism in their countries and contribute to the Olympic Movement. The Tokyo 2020 emblem symbolizes this unity in diversity which is one of three major concepts at the heart of the Tokyo 2020 Games vision.
