More than 80 NOCs attend ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019 Chef de Mission Seminar
10 July 2019; Doha, Qatar: Representatives from more than 80 NOCs attended the Chef de Mission Seminar in Doha on 8-10 July as the ANOC World Beach Games Organising Committee continues to press ahead with its preparations and ensure that the best possible environment awaits the NOCs and their athletes.
So far, 84 NOCs from all five continents have qualified for the inaugural Games, however, it is expected that the final number of NOCs qualified will exceed 100, guaranteeing a truly global celebration of sport.
A welcome reception, showcasing local Qatari culture, was held on the evening of 8 July before the Chef de Mission Seminar officially began on 9 July. The morning of the first day was focused on the proposed venue master plan, which remains subject to adjustments pending feedback from the IFs, and the Athletes’ Village. In the afternoon, the Chef de Missions toured the Athletes’ Village, which will be located in the Ezdan Hotel, and visited the different accommodation rooms and meeting rooms. Delegates then saw the proposed locations of the venue master plan as they toured Katara Beach and the Gharafa Beach Sports Complex.
On the second day, there was a presentation on the delegation registration process before more comprehensive presentations on Games Services, including: arrivals and departures, accommodation, transport, security, media, anti-doping, telecommunications, ticketing and ceremonies. The meeting concluded with presentations on NOC services.
ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg said:
“We are delighted to have had more than 80 NOCs here in Doha for our Chef de Mission Seminar. To have arranged for this many representatives to attend the Seminar in such a short period of time is a reflection of the strength of the collaboration between ANOC and the Organising Committee.
“The last two days have been very productive as we delivered presentations across all Games operational areas and welcomed the opportunity to answer any questions the Chef de Missions have. The Chef de Mission Seminar is critical not just in allowing us to update the NOCs but also in allowing us to hear their feedback and adapt our plans as needed to ensure the very best environment for them and their athletes. We have a busy three months ahead and speaking with the NOCs it is clear how much excitement there is for these Games.”
The Chef de Mission Seminar followed the IF Technical Delegate meeting which took place in Doha on 5-6 July.
