ANOC Athletes’ Commission meets in Lausanne to advance athlete empowerment and sustainability

The ANOC Athletes’ Commission convened at the ANOC Headquarters in Lausanne on November 7th  to advance its ongoing work on athlete empowerment and sustainable development.

The meeting covered a range of key initiatives, including sustainability programs, media services, and education pathways to support athletes transitioning beyond their sporting careers. Presentations from Athos Academy and High Impact Athletes, led by Marcus Daniell, IOC Athletes’ Commission member from New Zealand, showcased innovative approaches to career transition and climate-conscious athlete engagement.

Commission members also reviewed progress on several ANOC initiatives such as the NOC Sustainability Dashboard, Carbon Emissions Calculator, ANOC–Peak Uniform Program, and the Digital Content Hub under the ANOC Digital Accelerator Program (DAP).

The Athletes’ Commission praised ANOC’s growing portfolio of projects that directly benefit athletes, highlighting in particular the ANOC.tv Studio and the ANOC–Peak Uniform Program. Members underlined the importance of these initiatives in giving greater visibility to athletes who may not have communications support during major Games or significant media attention, while the uniform program enables them to wear their national colours with pride at the most important moment of their careers.

The session concluded with a discussion on strengthening administrative support for athletes’ commissions at both continental and NOC levels, exploring comparative governance models and potential funding mechanisms through Olympic Solidarity.
