30 NOCs Engage in ANOC Sustainability Accelerator Workshop 9
Over 30 National Olympic Committees joined today’s ANOC Sustainability Accelerator Program workshop, which explored how science can empower the sports movement to advance sustainability in meaningful and measurable ways.
The session featured Professor Martin Müller, Professor of Geography and Sustainability at the University of Lausanne, and Ioannis Konstantopoulos, sustainability consultant and expert in the intersection between sport and environmental performance. Together, they shared their perspectives on connecting scientific research with practical strategies for sport organisations.
Both experts highlighted that measuring and reducing carbon emissions is far more complex than it might appear for the sports and events sector. They underlined that true progress depends on committed measurement and reduction policies, tailored to the specific limitations and challenges faced by each NOC.
Through case studies and open discussion, the speakers offered guidance to NOCs that are trailblazing their own sustainability journeys, from designing evidence-based emissions policies to integrating environmental responsibility into their event planning and daily operations.
The ANOC Sustainability Accelerator Program continues to provide a collaborative platform for NOCs to learn, exchange, and lead the Olympic Movement toward a more sustainable future.
