ANOC Medical Commission meets via videoconference
The ANOC Medical Commission met via videconference today to discuss how ANOC can provide medical information and resources to support NOCs.
The meeting was led by Commission Chair Dr Chris Milne and attended by guests IOC Medical and Scientific Director Dr Richard Budgett and one of the ANOC representatives on the WADA Foundation Board, Dr Fabio Pigozzi. Dr Malav Shroff was also welcomed as a new member of the Commission.
Dr Milne updated the Commission on the last ANOC Executive Council meeting and presented a report on the ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019, before reports from each of the Continental Chairs were delivered.
Dr Budgett provided an update on the situation for Tokyo 2020 in relation to the current COVID-19 pandemic and it was discussed how the ANOC Medical Commission would be able to support with the dissemination of medical documentation to NOCs. Dr Pigozzi then provided an update from WADA.
The meeting also served as a very useful opportunity for the doctors from all five continents to share their experiences of dealing with the effects on sport from the COVID 19 pandemic, and provide a balanced medical perspective for athletes and their support teams.
