ANOC Executive Council meets in Cape Verde for key discussions
The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Executive Council met today in Cape Verde to receive key updates on the organisation’s activities and programmes and to discuss priority items for the year ahead.
The meeting was formally opened by Carlos Monteiro, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister for Youth and Sport of Cape Verde, who extended a warm welcome to all delegates and emphasised that the country’s doors are always open to the Olympic Movement. ANOCA President Mustapha Berraf and ANOC Executive Council member from Cape Verde Filomena Fortes also addressed Council members and underscored the significance of convening the Executive Council on African soil and the commitment to constructive dialogue among all participants. Mr Berraf took the opportunity to present ANOC President Robin Mitchell with the Order of African Olympic and Sport Merit for his exceptional contribution during his Presidency.
The Executive Council received updates from each of the Continental Associations, which reported on the breadth of work undertaken to support their respective NOCs.
ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg and ANOC Director of NOC Relations Gustavo Harada provided a comprehensive update on ANOC’s activities and featured several key initiatives including: the Peak Uniform Project, which will be expanded to provide vital support to NOCs during the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games; the Sustainability Accelerator Programme, which recently saw the launch of the NOC Sustainability Dashboard; the latest on the Digital Accelerator Programme and the projects delivered to NOCs during the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games; and the continued expansion of ANOC.tv, growing reach across a number of major events during the past year.
The Executive Council also received a report on the electoral process for the positions of ANOC President and Senior Vice President, which will take place at this year’s ANOC General Assembly. The report set out the relevant procedures and timelines for nominations. Executive Council members were informed by Timothy Fok that preparations for the General Assembly are well on track. The agenda and programme for the General Assembly was presented and members engaged in discussion on ways to ensure the meeting delivers maximum value and interactivity for NOCs.

ANOC President Mitchell said:

This will be an important year for ANOC with our General Assembly bringing the election of a new President and a key milestone for the NOC family to convene and discuss the path ahead under the IOC new Fit for the Future framework. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Filomena and to Cape Verde for providing excellent conditions for our meeting and a very warm welcome.”
